Dispatches from the sunburned wastelands

For the past couple of days we've been struggling to decipher Immigration Canada's website, trying to determine the correct process to follow so that Hannelie might apply for a work permit. She's almost completed her Phd, and somebody offered her a job (Yay!), but now we have to fill in all those dreaded forms again (sigh...). Man, but it's tough to find what you are looking for on CIC's website! After what feels like years of trying, she finally got hold of a Real! Live! person on the CIC help line (an amazing feat), and this person then proceeded to tell her something completely different than the procedure that is explained on their website. I do hope it was the right advice...otherwise Hannelie's work visa application might end up at the bottom of somebody's dustbin, and her prospective employers might lose their patience.
