Potluck at Eric's House

Monday, August 22, 2005

Potluck is an amazing Canadian custom - it allows people to bring their own food & drink, and share the burden of catering to a large group of people - kind of like having a party without the bother of worrying too much about the food! One of my colleagues at work, Eric Hadley, invited us to a potluck at his remarkable house in the country, a few km outside Fredericton. Eric built the house himself, from logs and mortar, and filled the walls with sawdust for better insulation. It is surrounded by a large garden, containing not only old apple trees and lovely flower beds, but also some vegetable garden plots, overflowing with an abundance of beans, tomatoes, potatoes, berries and much more organic vegetable goodness. Thanks for inviting us, Eric!
