Those crazy Canadian liquor laws...

Monday, August 08, 2005

I am still greatly bemused when confronted by the archaic Canadian liquor legislation (especially here in the maritimes - I hear it's more civilized out west). However, in a great leap forward, it was announced yesterday that Nova Scotia finally repealed it's legislation that bans people from transporting alcohol inside their vehicles(!). This happened after a TV reporter filmed a news segment showing how people are allowed to buy their liquor at drive-through liquor stores, without ever getting out of their vehicles to put their purchases in the trunks of their cars. He did this, because he was stopped by the police, and had to pour out all his purchased liquor, because he had it stowed behind the seat of his truck. But, the Nova Scotia government said that you still cannot drive around with an opened bottle of wine - even if it is in your vehicle's trunk. When you go on that picnic, make sure to drink up all that wine, otherwise you'll be in trouble!
