Immigration blahs

After the euphoria (ha-ha) of having my work visa extended for a massive 4 more months, the reality of our situation set in. We only have 4 months to try and stay in Canada. We had hoped to apply for permanent resident status through a Provincial Nominee program, but with no permanent job offers coming our way, it now looks like that isn't going to happen (For those who don't know, getting PR through the normal Federal immigration channels can take up to three years...But, through the Provincial Nominee program, a particular province may 'nominate' a foreigner to immigrate to Canada. This speeds up the immigration process considerably. However, in most provinces, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia included, you need either a permanent job offer, or LOTS of money to invest.). We have started gathering the necessary paperwork to complete our PR applications, but as anyone coming from a semi-third world country knows, it might take forever to get all the official documents. What happpened to the "good" old days, when you just got off the ship on Halifax's Pier 21, suitcase in hand, and was welcomed into Canada with open arms?
