MirrorMask

Saw a really great movie last night, called Mirrormask. A teenage girl called Helena, who's parents run a little sideshow circus in Brighton, England, is upset about her mother who's in hospital for an operation. She goes to sleep in her dreary apartment bedroom one night, but wakes up to find that she's somehow been transported to a strange, twisted dreamworld, where everybody wears a mask. The world seems to resemble her own charcoal drawings that's pasted on her bedroom wall, back in the real world. Then things start to go wrong in the dreamworld - large chunks of it starts to disappear, and only by finding an illusive "Mirrormask" will Helena be able to save this strange world from disappearing altogether. She teams up with a juggler called Valentine, and they have all sorts of adventures.

The movie mixes real actors with CGI graphics, and is unlike anything I've ever seen before. The script was written by Neil Gaiman, and is therefore very creepy, but in a good way. This was the only screening of the movie in Atlantic Canada, I think, but don't despair, the DVD comes out this week! There's more info about the DVD here.
