View from the Citadel
Thursday, March 09, 2006
Yesterday was a clear and sunny day, warm (for this time of year) and Spring-like. I took the opportunity to walk around the old Citadel in downtown Halifax...This is the view from Citadel Hill, across the city towards the harbour. New downtown development plans mean that this view might soon be obstructed by a couple of skyscrapers, much like the aesthetically unpleasing Aliant building is doing right now (it's the one that juts out in the centre of the pic above)...The argument goes something like, 'Who cares if a bunch of stupid tourists want to see a bit of water from up there, eh?'...I'm thinking, if tourists want to see skyscrapers, they'd go to New York or Dubai...a lot of tourists come to Halifax for the old town-feel, historical sites and such. Take that away by allowing (more) non-conforming buildings, and maybe they wouldn't bother coming anymore...
