Dispatches from the sunburned wastelands

I'm thinking of starting an Afrikaans Blog...Maybe it will keep my Afrikaans alive a bit longer. After 5 years away from "home", I've already noticed a decay in my vocabulary...It also seems that the Blog business has really taken off back in South Africa (their internet connections must be getting better & cheaper). However, it's fascinating that a lot of the Afrikaans blogs out there seem to originate from expats like me...Amidst all the doom and gloom talk about Afrikaans becoming extinct, maybe the revolution in communications and the media (such as Blogs and Podcasts) will allow Afrikaans to flourish, instead of becoming stagnant - Expat Afrikaans speakers might even contribute to new Afrikaans words (I'm sure the new Afrikaans word "potgooi", meaning "podcast", was invented by an expat...). To all of this Blog's three readers, rest assured that I will continue my scribbling on these pages.
