My first Moose
Sunday, April 16, 2006
I saw a moose on Thursay, on my way to work. It may sound strange, but this was the first time I saw a real, live Moose! (I've seen lots of dead moose at work, when hunters bring them in to be weighed, or when the rangers bring back one that they've scraped off of the road surface somewhere). We've been in the country almost five years now, and I was beginning to think that moose were just one of those elaborate hoaxes people play on you...But there I was driving along the 102 from Gagetown, when I noticed the little yellow moose warning sign by the side of the road. "Hello!" I thought, "it's getting warmer, so the moose will probably be out soon. I have to watch out when I'm driving this road at night..." And lo and behold, just around the bend, there it was by the side of the road, standing serenely in a puddle of mud, looking at me contemplatively, as if he was wondering what the odds were of him surviving against the Volvo...
See, they aren't just something you find dead in the back of people's trucks!! :)
