Botanical bliss

We visited the most excellent National Botanic Garden on Saturday - Again, a very well designed Australian public space, showcasing most of the biomes from South-Eastern Australia. A lot of the plants reminded me of South African species, for example the proteas and wattles. Who knew that there were more than a 1000 different species of wattle trees (genus Acacia) found in Australia?

The rainforest gully was especially breathtaking, with three separate levels of walkways, allowing the visitor to experience the different vegetation strata, almost from the tree canopy down to the forest floor.

While meandering through the gardens, we als oencountered a number of very tame and inquisitive water dragons...Over the ages, this big island has evolved an amazing variety of animals and plants.

Botanic Gardens are one of my favorite places. Plenty of room to wander here and there along the meandering pathways. Rainforest Gully always a favorite, and spotting water dragons as well.

I should have realised the literary allusion of "Lady Sybil". Just finished Monstrous Regiment, and the Wee Free Men a few weeks ago.
