Bushwacked and other stories

As I am sitting here at home, listening to the boom-boom of the neighbours music (we're living in an area filled with yahoos and hicks), while I'm thinking about the stunning result of the American mid-term elections, and the fact that Rumsfeld has resigned. Yeah, that's the way to do it: first f*%k up Iraq, and then leave it to other people to sort out. This will certainly make Bush's last two years in office very interesting. If it will change the way the Americans have waged their international wars remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, here in Australia the Government has found a solution to the drought: Just privatize the water supply, stupid! Yes, the good old conservative Howard Government wants Capitalism to sort out the climate crisis. Instead of just shutting down absurdities like rice farming and flood irrigation of the vast cotton fields, the Government has decreed that water will now be traded as a commodity between states. It's an ill wind when a government sits back, throws up their arms and says, "let the market sort it out", especially concerning a vital necessity of life.

Yes Hannes. This is a crazy world we live in. You should have seen some of the campaign commercials on US tv. The Democrats only had to show images of the Republican that was running, shaking hands with Bush. The Republicans had nothing. They could only say: "But the Democrats aren't SAYING anything... you don't know what they STAND for...". It's a sad day in American politics when one side accuses the other of not having anything to say. haha, and you know they are gonna lose.

Oh, about the water.... I can honestly say I don't know what to say. It's shocking. The people of Australia now have no rights to the basic necessity of life. wow.

I hope you can get back to Canada soon. Harper isn't gonna make it through the next election. He broke a promise and he has Quebec REALLY mad. From the last I heard if there was an election held today, the Tories would lose every seat they won in Quebec in the last election. Canada is not meant for a reform governemnt.
