Dispatches from the sunburned wastelands

This week everything (it seemed) broke down. First, the vacuum cleaner died. This was disastrous, because the little monster had just learned to crawl forward, at high speed, and suddenly every dirty floor in the house became within his reach. Then, the washing machine started leaking. And, to top it all off, on Thursday the indicator stalk of the Volvo snapped in two ( leaving me wondering what else in the old car has silently been giving in to metal fatigue ). Well, there goes our Christmas presents for this year..
