Autumn

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

It's autumn in Canberra - glorious, mild days followed by cool nights, and beautiful autumn colours put out by those pesky 'imported' northern hemisphere trees. This weekend it's the annual hot air balloon festival along the shores of lake Burley Griffin, apparently a sight to behold as the early morning fog swirls over the lake. We'll try to catch it, Baby willing (we stayed home most of the easter weekend due to a sick little boy...he just knows when to get a cold, doesn't he.)

It's still hard getting used to the autumn being in April, though - who knew that my southern hemisphere upbringing would be so easily lost? Next thing you know, I won't recognize the Southern Cross...

Guess who the little bugger takes after ... his dad used to develop tonsilitis or a bad case of the flu on the first day of the annual vacation (that was when we could still afford going on vacation on a regular basis of course, now he just get sick every time we plan something relaxing hehe)

We still seem to be in winter mode here. Last weekend brought 20cm of snow to Nova Scotia. Calista was off school last thursday due to bad weather, and my front lawn is STILL covered in snow. I did have my first BBQ of the season yesterday. The burger off. Not sure if you saw it mentioned on the blog. Anyway, I WON. haha
So far it's been a pretty great week. Iron ring on monday, burger off champ on tuesday, cedar grilled salmon today: what more could a person ask for really.

We had 30 cm of snow...it was our first 'real' snow storm...loved it! The only bad thing is...it happened in spring....
