Dispatches from the sunburned wastelands

Well, we made it back from our South African sojourn in one piece. We haven't lived there for almost eight years, and this time back we really felt more like tourists than returning citizens. It was memorable, scary, crazy, beautiful, exciting, nostalgic, horrible...(not necessarily in that order). Everyone survived (more or less). But more about that later. Still have to catch up on some zzz's, thanks to the day that went missing while we were on the plane. Where do those missing days go, I wonder?
