One of the Big Questions of Life
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
In this time of global financial crisis, of somebody like Sarah Palin inching here stiletto heels ever closer to being the second-mist powerful figure in the free word, and of imminent climate change leading to Armageddon, I am going to blog about...Australian clothes. And the fact that clothes bought here is not tumble-dryable (is there even such a word?). Anyway. Most clothes we brought with us as refugees from North America can be tumble-dried; even some of the pieces we have left from our time (long ago) in South Africa can be tumble-dried, and here is what I don't understand: all of it is pretty much made in the same Far-eastern sweat shop factory somewhere in China/Bangladesh/India, so why the difference? This is one of the BIG questions of life, I'm sure.
