The Scribe Returns, and all is well (almost)

I'm sorry I haven't been in touch for a while, but it's been one thing after another in the B-household. First, the old Volvo decided to give up the ghost, pouring out oil faster than a Texas well (terminal, the mechanic said, sadly shaking his head), and then the whole clan had the flu/cold/near-death illness that's currently doing the rounds here in Canberra. Anyway, that's no excuse for not blogging, is it? In the meantime, we capitulated and bowed under peer pressure, by getting us one of these:
It's a 2000-model Subaru Outback (which seemed the appropriate choice, because we want to really start exploring this huge country soon), with fewer bells and whistles than the Volvo, but apparently is held in much higher regard by the ozzies (they seem to have this thing about Volvo drivers which I could never really grasp - I received a very thorough education on Aussie sign-language whilst driving the V, while so far life on the road has been pretty uneventful with the Sub). Getting financing for the car was another story, which I won't bore you with. Suffice to say that we have to pay back the loan over 21 months (!), which is one of the reasons why it's an eight year old car...
The Good Dr B has been flat on her back for the past week (something that rarely happens), and just as it seemed she was getting better, I got the sneezes. It's got to be called the Boomerang Flu, 'cause it keeps on coming back.
The Little Monster is growing fast (this is being measured by the ever rising tide of household objects being put higher up to keep them out of his reach), and has been doing some exploring of his own:
That's the Ozzie Parliament in the background, across the lake.
